| Oslo - the host city of the 18th Alzheimer Europe Conference The history of Oslo is more than a thousand years old. The city of Oslo, which became the capital fo Norway in 1299, is situated in a beatiful location at the end of the Oslo Fjord, where the hills and woods meet the sea. By sea you can visit the Viking ships and teh exhibition of the Kon-Tiki raft which brought the famous explorer Thor Heyerdahl from South America to the Easter Island. The Polar ships Fram and Gjøa, and the Maritime museum are also nearby. The masterpieces of our most famous painter Edward Munch can be seen in the National Gallery close to the conference venue and in the Munch Museum. Up in the hills, the view is magnificent and for visitors, the Holmenkollen area is a must, with its famous ski jump and World Cup arena for Nordic skiing. Oslo is a busy harbour city with daily ferries to Denmark and Germany, train and bus connections to Sweden and Denmark and connection bu air to the rest of Europe. Conference language The official language of the conference is English. All plenary sessions will be in English, as well as most of the parallel sessions. Two parallel sessions each day will be in a Scandinavia language. | |

Climate Norway enjoys a temperate clima. The weather is generally pleasent in May, but can be somewhat unpredictalbe. You should bring an umbrella and some warm clothing. | |
Electricity The electrical current in Norway is 220 volts (50Hz). Plugs and sockets are the same as in the continental countries of the EU. If your equipment requires different voltage, you will need an electrical transformer. | |
